My Teaching Philosophy

I see learning bassoon and music in general as both individual and group focused. I teach to create the performers that my students may one day become by creating strong solo players that can perform well with their ensembles. My background in psychology plays a large role in my teaching philosophy and I try to consider my students’ needs and wants as they embrace their musicianship. Bassoon is a difficult instrument to learn and I work with my students on trusting the process. I additionally consider the physical capabilities of my students and incorporate body mapping into lessons to limit the development of poor habits and reduce the risk of future music-related injuries.
