General
Students in grades 3-12 are welcome to audition for NJYS during our Open Auditions at the end of May. Mid-year auditions may be available depending on open positions. Email us at info@njys.org for more information.
Orchestral instruments, Percussion, and Jazz instruments
Yes, NJYS strongly recommends all students study privately. Our Performing Arts School has a wide range of available instructors. Call (908) 790-0700 for more information.
The NJYS season runs from September to May. On average, students are in rehearsal once a week, Sunday through Thursday, depending on their ensemble, and rehearsals are anywhere from 1.5-3 hours. Concert weeks include extra time/separate days for the dress rehearsal, and a soundcheck about 2 hours before the concert.

The NJYS campus is located at 570 Central Avenue, New Providence, NJ. Concert venues include UCPAC in Rahway, St. Elizabeth University in Morristown, Memorial Auditorium and Alexander Theater at Montclair State University, Richardson Theater at Princeton University, Nicholas Theater at Rutgers University, The Concert Hall at Drew University, and many more.
Yes! Students interested in the Chamber Music program should join us for our NJYS Open Auditions. The Chamber Music is an eight-week program, starting at the end of September. Participants prepare a piece of music with a coach provided by NJYS and perform in a Chamber Music Recital at the end of the session.
Audition Registration for the 2022-2023 Season will open on April 1, 2022. Auditions will take place in person, from May 18-June 6, 2022.
All students audition each year to secure a position in an ensemble regardless of their previous participation in the program.
Cost / Tuition
Tuition costs vary for each NJYS ensemble and payment plans are available. There is an audition fee of $60 per individual student or $90 per family (more than 1 child). For more information, visit our Ensembles page.
