The Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts announced today the cancellation of the 19th Annual Mother’s Day 5K scheduled for Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Berkeley Heights Memorial Field. Wharton Arts looks forward to hosting the 20th Annual Mother’s Day 5K on Sunday, May 9, 2021. All 2020 race registrants will be refunded in full. For more information, call 908-790-0700.
“It is our top priority to keep our community healthy as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Peter H. Gistelinck, Executive Director. “This is why we made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Mother’s Day 5K, which we were looking forward to hosting again this year.”
The USATF-sanctioned Grand Prix event (500 points) attracts over a thousand participants and features a free tot trot, prizes for top finishers, and musical performances throughout. Last year’s race raised $23,000 to support music education at Wharton’s three programs: the New Jersey Youth Symphony, Paterson Music Project, and Performing Arts School. As a non-profit, the Mother’S Day 5K is a vital part of the organization’s fundraising efforts. To support music education at Wharton Arts in these difficult times, please consider making a donation.
The Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts’ mission is to provide the highest quality performing arts education to a wide range of students in a supportive and inclusive environment, where striving for personal excellence inspires and connects those we teach to the communities we serve. In these challenging times, Wharton Arts is providing access to performing arts education online as students across New Jersey shift to digital learning.
