Biography
Selia Myers is equally passionate about flute and piccolo performance, arts administration, and private flute instruction. Selia recently graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance and minors in arts leadership and professional writing. Most recently, she performed on tour as a flutist with the New Jersey Youth Chorus in Italy. Her primary flute instructors include Dr. Sarah Frisof, Aaron Goldman, Leah Arsenault, and Mindy Scheierman. Selia has been teaching private flute lessons to young flutists over Zoom since July 2020. She has performed in masterclasses at the New Jersey Flute Society Flute Fair, Bonita Boyd International Flute Masterclass at Eastman, and Interlochen Flute Institute. Selia completed summer orchestral studies at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, in addition to a number of flute intensives. Selia holds a diploma from the Mannes College of Music Pre-College Division (2018). At the University of Maryland, Selia performed regularly with the Wind Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Opera Orchestra and a student wind quintet. Most recently, Selia earned Second Prize in the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia's Collegiate Artist Competition. She contributed to the Music for Hard Times project, an improvisatory composition recorded by musicians of the Wind Orchestra in collaboration with composer Danny Clay and The Living Earth Show. As a member of the Symphony Orchestra, Selia performed in the world premiere of composer Maria Newman’s work, Our Rights, and Nothing Less for Symphony Orchestra and Speaker. Selia performed on flute and piccolo in the School of Music production of Kurt Weill’s Die Zaubernacht. During the fall 2020 semester, Selia collaborated with her wind quintet colleagues to remotely record and produce a performance of Gyorgy Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles for Wind Quintet. Selia has led a private flute studio for several years in northern New Jersey. In her spare time, Selia enjoys running, exploring national parks, and photography.
