What do students need to bring to their first lesson?
Full size composition notebook, pencil, music for school or other ensembles, and any music they want to play in the lesson. Beginners need a swab to clean out the inside of the flute, cleaning rod, and a music stand at home. A tuner and metronome or equivalent apps on a smartphone are needed for most students.
Learning Goals
Depending on the level of playing, I emphasize producing a beautiful, clear tone first. I ask what the student wants to work on and we set the goals together. I often play several pieces from which they can choose what to prepare for the next lessons. I love answering their questions! My goal is to instill confidence and enjoyment.
Supply List
We will decide this in the early lessons, based on the level and goals of each student. I will prepare all students for school concerts, auditions for NJYS, Regional Band/Allstate tryouts, Juries, and Recitals. Some repertoire can be just for enjoyment, with no specific goal of a performance.
Time Commitment
Weekly lessons of 30, 45, or 60 minutes. Flex lessons of 45 or 60 are available to more advanced students who have difficult schedules, especially adults.
Progress
Per semester or yearly lessons
