What do students need to bring to their first lesson?
Just their instrument, a pencil, and a smile! Also, any pets would be completely fine with me. NO FISH THOUGH
We’d certainly look to establish fundamental technique both in the left hand and with tone production. It’s also important to be able to play real music in the first few weeks, though, as well as establishing a sense of relaxation and freedom with the instrument, so the student does not view interacting with it as a chore, but rather an opportunity to explore their talent and imagination!
I use a lot of different material to create a personalized curriculum for each student, so this will vary from person to person.
This will vary a bit according to the age and goals of the student; this line of communication is always kept open. An individualized practice plan is discussed very early on!
