What do students need to bring to their first lesson?
A willingness to learn and a smile.
Learning Goals
Early Childhood: Singing, aural skills, rhythms, simple music concepts (loud/soft), and socialization. Piano: Posture, hand position, identifying and locating notes on the piano, introduce solfeggio, understanding the musical staff, and learn to play a song. Adults/Adolescents: Faster paced with mature/age appropriate content.
Supply List
Various early chilhood music curriculums including Musikgarten, Kindermusik, and original material…Piano/Recorder: Bastien, Alfred, Snell, Czerny, Yamaha method books.
Time Commitment
Weekly lessons are expected. I recommend students who are between 4.5-8 years old practice homework assignment exercises and songs to match their age (5yr-olds will practice a song 5 times daily, 6-yr. old will practice 6 times daily, etc.). Older students will collaborate with practice assignments.
Progress
Year-long and/or semester group piano classes, private/dyads, music therapy, and music theory (early childhood music) are available paths for all students.
