Biography
A native Colombian, Ana Diaz Herrera focuses but not limited herself as an orchestra musician. Her musical education started at the Conservatorio del Tolima, in Ibague, Colombia. She stabilized herself in Bogotá in 2010 and distributed her time playing in the two main orchestras in Bogotá, Orquesta Sinfónica de Colombia and Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá; in addition, she was appointed a member of FOSBO (Fundación Orquesta Sinfónica de Bogotá) where she served as both principal viola and section viola. Ana has participated in other orchestras in the United States and China, including the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, Meridian Symphony Orchestra, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, University of Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Tianjin Juilliard Symphony Orchestra, Rutgers Symphony Orchestra.
In the Spring of 2019, she was appointed as the new violist of the Kahlo String Quartet which is based in the Philadelphia area. They were selected to participate in an Audience Engagement Intensive program at Carnegie Hall in partnership with the New York City Department of Education.
Ana holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. While attending USM, Ana also worked as the International-String Recruitment Coordinator of the Music School. Then, she studied with Dr. Elias Goldstein at the University of Delaware and in 2020 she joined the inaugural class of the Tianjin Juilliard School and completed a degree in Orchestral Studies with Professor Sheila Browne. Currently, she is pursuing her Doctoral degree in Viola Performance at Rutgers University where she is a student of Professor Daniel Panner. Her music career has taken her from Colombia to different countries and given her the opportunity to perform and work in different stages around Europe, The United States, China and Colombia.
