Dear NJYS Community,
We are writing to update you on the New Jersey Youth Symphony’s continuing response to COVID-19, known as the coronavirus. While we want to emphasize that there are no known cases at NJYS, it is important to take further steps right now to help slow the progress of the virus, in anticipation of any potential issues arising specifically at NJYS. As such, we have temporarily suspended all rehearsals, activities, and performances of all NJYS ensembles between March 11 and March 29.
In addition, the 2020 Playathon scheduled for March 29 has been cancelled and more details on continuing the fundraising efforts for this important annual event will be shared by our Development leadership.
Please note that the Audition Workshop scheduled for March 14 has been postponed to a new date TBD as well.
We are working closely with our community to ensure the continuity of instruction to the best of our ability. As performance and ensemble activities are cancelled until at least March 29, we do realize that this may have wide-reaching implications for performance activities throughout the rest of the semester. Rest assured however that we will modify the activities and requirements as needed and in the best interest of all.
It is vital that all members of the NJYS community check their emails regularly for updates in the coming days. If you have any questions, please use these contacts:
- Executive Director Peter H. Gistelinck
- Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Helen H. Cha-Pyo

We will continue to keep you informed on a regular basis. We understand that these measures will cause disruption to the NJYS community, but we strongly believe that actions taken now will have the greatest chance of decreasing potential risk. The new policies will be in place at least through Sunday, March 29, and we will reassess our plans and communicate any changes as early as we are able.
Thank you for your continued cooperation in helping to ensure we continue to follow best practices to keep NJYS healthy as we navigate this complex situation together as a community. DOWNLOAD THIS MESSAGE.
