NJYS Orchestral Camp: String Session

Join the NJYS Orchestral Camp this summer for a fun and rewarding experience in either the Winds/Brass/Percussion or String Session. Each day, both sessions will join forces to create the NJYS Summer Festival Orchestra and perform a final concert on Saturday, July 8.

Summer String Session Campers will work on building their confidence through ensemble performance and teamwork, while improving their playing skills and technique. Interested in trying viola or string bass during the summer? Our students are offered a chance to try another string instrument during the camp and take lessons as part of the doubling program. This two-week camp experience will culminate with a final performance, showcasing Strings and Symphony Orchestra.

Recommended for students whose playing level is between NJYS Solo Levels 1-4, and in 10th grade or younger.

Students who are not currently in an NJYS ensemble are required to submit a placement video by May 1. The video should be emailed to info@njys.org, after enrollment.

Strings Session:

  • Solo piece of student’s choice
  • 1 Major and 1 minor 2 octave scale (80 to a quarter note, slurring 8th notes, 4 per bow)

Tempo for scales = 120 bpm
