Join us for an action-packed summer as we explore the lives of some of the most influential composers and their most memorable works. As a Music Explorer, your child will tap into their sense of rhythm, pitch, and harmony through plenty of hands-on interactive fun. Daily activities include Orff Ensemble, Intro to Music for Young Beginners, Keyboard Lab, Musical Mapping games and more! Through our weekly instrument petting zoo, your Music Explorer will get to meet and try out various instruments from the orchestral family. At the end of each week, they will give a brief performance for friends and family. This flexible program can be scheduled for mornings only or a full-day package that includes fun in the sun at the Berkeley Heights Community Pool.

This camp introduces students to musical theater in a flexible mornings only or full-day package.  In the morning, Theater Explorers learn skills in voice, acting, movement, and playwriting. Campers work together as an ensemble to create an original script based on the theme of the week.  A showcase featuring scenes, songs, and dance is presented every Friday.  In the afternoon, full-day campers participate in workshops presented by instructors and guest artists in dance, drama, musicianship, and voice.  Full-day campers also enjoy fun in the sun at Berkley Heights Community Pool Monday through Thursday.

Audition Workshop

Are you audition ready?  This week-long workshop teaches campers the skills and repertoire needed to be confident when faced with an audition. With guidance from the Director, campers choose appropriate songs and monologues, receive coaching, rehearse with an accompanist, learn a dance routine, and perform selections in a final showcase at the end of the week.  Campers have the option to “Add-On” on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon for head shots, resume building, guidance for negotiating college auditions, and more!

Hip Hop Dance Camp

Hip Hop Dance Camp with Miss Nia is a week-long intensive camp that will enhance your skills in all aspects of dance. Campers work with instructors and guest artists on yoga, hip hop, jazz, and other dance styles during the morning.  Afternoon hours are spent in repertory class, focusing on choreography for a final showcase.  All campers will shine in a show-stopping performance on Friday afternoon.  Are you ready to dance?

Triple Threat Musical Theater Intensive

Focus is on developing triple threat skills and putting them on display in two show-stopping performances at the end of camp. Jazz shoes required.

Summer Musical Theater Company

For the advanced performer: Summer Musical Theater Company is a fast-paced triple threat experience in just two weeks! Campers audition, rehearse, and prepare for two full performances of Once On This Island Jr. Audition required for placement: video submission of a short (30 seconds-1 minute) monologue and one musical theater song of the camper’s choosing.  Email link or video to timothy.cole@whartonarts.org. This two-week camp is designed to unleash the artist within with classes in dance, movement, acting, and improvisation. Campers learn about theater while preparing a play from start to finish.  On the final day of camp, students will present an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved James and the Giant Peach performed with costumes, scenery, and lights.

String Camp

Open to violinists, violists, cellists, and double bass students. Experience the excitement of playing chamber music with other talented young musicians. Improve technique and performance skills in this fun, collaborative camp for strings. Students have the opportunity to compose, improvise, expand their music theory knowledge, work with a percussionist, and experiment with fiddling and other styles, as well as visit a local violin maker. Camp includes a special guest artist performance. Completion of Suzuki Book One or higher is required and there will be a placement audition on July 6, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. This camp takes place at 570 Central Avenue in New Providence.

Jam Band Camp

Geared for the student who wants to form his or her own ensemble, this camp focuses on the tools needed to reach that goal.  Improvisation, music theory, music history, transcription and songwriting, recording techniques, and how to run rehearsals and jam sessions will all be covered in this one-week camp. Campers will get to put this into action in rehearsals, jam sessions, and recording sessions.  A minimum of six months playing experience is recommended for participation in this camp. This camp takes place at 570 Central Avenue in New Providence.
